DIY switched mode PSU?
Does anyone know of a single IC to change the mode power supplies? I have to drop 12V (from a battery Lead-acid) to 5V, up to 2 amps. It would be good to be buildable in VEROBOARD, and the smallest number of rolls that I have to roll the best! I am sure something like this must already exist for automotive use, such as engine management and similar systems are increasingly complex and require more energy than can be comfortably dissipate 7805 by a simple linear regulator type. The National Security Council seems to be only partly available on the SOIC versions. About resistance and using a divider network I would stress that with a 2.5 ohm, 5 volts, 10 watts offer resistance to the circuit that are cited with a 3.5 ohm, 7 volts, 14 watt resistor in series or 15-watt transformer car that had a touch or allowed you to set the tap at 5 volts. I'm showing my ignorance by trying to answer your question, probably.
